Police stated they were notified by a man who found a automobile in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered multiple other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.

A high-ranking political figure stated the attack rendered him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
